Canon finally released their long awaited EOS 5D Digital SLR camera replacement, it has been three years since the introduction of Canon EOS 5D, the first budget full frame for Canon users. Canon named their  new budget full frame as Canon EOS 5D Mark II instead of the rumored Canon EOS 7D.

Here are the official sample photos of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II taken with EF24-105mm F4L IS USM for the landscape shot and EF50mm F1.2L USM for the portrait shot. 100% cropped version are included.

Portrait 1/100s F/2 ISO100 EF50mm F1.2L USM

Portrait 1/100s F/2 ISO100 EF50mm F1.2L USM 100% Cropped: Eye

Landscape 1/800s F/7.1 ISO100 EF24-105mm F4L IS USM

Landscape 1/800s F/7.1 ISO100 EF24-105mm F4L IS USM 100% Cropped: Ice Details

Landscape 1/800s F/7.1 ISO100 EF24-105mm F4L IS USM 100% Cropped: Ice Pieces

The landscape shot taken with EF24-105mm F4L IS USM is rather impressive in comparison with the portrait taken. The landscape shot retains details and shows very good contrast and saturation. Further stopping down to F/11 may make a better photo in terms of details.

The portrait although looks good in the overview but when cropped to 100%, the left eye, which looks to be focused, is not. Not a very good reference for portrait photo, maybe due to large aperture of F/2 used. The Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 Indoor Portrait with 100% Cropped beats this easily.

The new Canon full frame boost 21 Megapixel featuring the best CMOS sensor with highly capable noise sensitivity (ISO) performance. Canon claims it to be the best among the current Canon lineup, including the 1D series.

Some interesting features about the new Canon EOS 5D Mark II is the ability to record 1080p High Definition (HD)movies. HD recording in Digital SLR was first introduced by Nikon's D90 amateur lineup digital SLR camera. The Canon EOS 5D Mark II records HD at 1080p while the Nikon D90 does it in 720p, the Canon EOS Mark II cost twice the price of the Nikon D90.
