(masterchong.com)Photographing waterfall is one of the scenes that nature snipers love doing. Imagine camping for days and hours of hike just to catch a satisfying shot , sometimes when you are lucky you get to get some nice shots else you go back empty handed.

Unless you are talking to people who loves the nature or loves nature photography else the only reply you will get from them is “You are nuts!” Being self motivated is very important in nature photography, may it be a waterfall hunt or a specific flora hunt, patience in you play one of the most important role.

Dare not to say that I am an experienced hiker or nature photographer as what I gone through is nothing compared to those who are taking the jungle as their second home. Being close to nature, enjoying the greeneries and smelling the woods are something I enjoy going through, which is why I am always excited whenever I am wanted to capture some nature moments.

My day started off early, carrying an 8kg bag with equipments and a 5kg tripod into the woods with some frequent local hikers. It is a norm for me to work alone as a photographer together with the local trackers and hikers. From time to time a partner of mine may join as a company.

“What’s in the bag?” asked the local hikers or trackers, when they first met me. “Well, cameras, lens, laptop, batteries, memories and water”, I answered, trying not to go into details to avoid more questions. In addition to that I carry a Manfrotto 055ProB tripod with a Pan-and-Tilt head attached.

Hikes usually take between 3 and 5hours to reach a spot, then we will stop, they will take some rest while I will be unpacking my gears for the waterfall shoot. Before setting up my tripod I will walk around the spot trying to look for better angles. Once I have decided where to shoot, the setting up begins.

Usually I take around 100-130 shots from different angles. I shoot only RAW in nature photography. Then I do a quick check in the laptop to make sure those photos are alright and I need not to come back another time for a re-shoot. When everything is OK, we move on to another spot.

Being bitten by mosquitoes and insects are nothing new to me. I bring along a emergency first-aid kit just in case I need it, I am a trained first-aider which is an advantage to me I guess.

Are you a nature lover? Want to recommend me some nice places for nature photography? Contact me and maybe we can arrange sometime to do a hike or photo-shoot together.
